Val Dal Khichdi is cooked with val dal and green spices. Dal Khichdi Recipe is a combination of rice and lentils. Khichdi is easy to digest.

Cooking Time: Appr. 45 Minutes
Serves: 2-3 People

Val Dal KhichdiIngredients:

1 cup rice
½ cup val dal
2 large onions
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
½ teaspoon red chilli powder
2 green chillies
½ inch ginger
4 garlic cloves
2 tablespoon chopped coriander
1½ teaspoon cumin seeds
4 cloves
½ inch cinnamon
4 cardamoms
1 tablespoon butter
Salt to taste
Water as needed

Cooking Method:

1. Soak the val dal with the water overnight.

2. Soak the rice with the water for an hour.

3. Peel the ginger. Now grind the garlic cloves, ginger, chopped coriander and green chillies and make a paste for the recipe of dal khichdi.

4. Cut the large onions in halves and then cut in slices.

5. Heat the butter in a big pan (or pressure cooker) and add cumin seeds. When cumin seeds crackles, add cloves, cardamoms and cinnamon stick.

6. Then add sliced onions and cook it for 5 mins, keep stirring in between.

7. Add the green paste and stir it.

8. Now add the turmeric powder, coriander powder, chilli powder and salt. Mix it well.

9. Add the val dal and cook it for 20 mins, covering the lid on slow heat (stir every 2-3 mins to avoid dal to stick bottom of the pan).

10. Now add the soaked rice and 3 cups of water, mix it. Then and add baby onion on top. Cook it on slow heat until rice and dal are cooked well.

11. Add more water, if it is required.

12. Once this dal khichdi is cooked, turn off the heat.

Serve hot val dal khichdi with pickle or with any curry.
