If you’re planning a cocktail party then make sure it’s a great one! The right atmosphere puts everybody in exactly the right mood, and there’s nothing better than a cocktail to lift the spirits. Cocktails are light and fruity, meaning that nobody is likely to get rolling drunk, unless they really get stuck in! Rather they will just be put in a very cheerful mood and you’ll all have a lot of fun. Here is a few tips on cocktail party and how to plan the perfect cocktail party for all occasions:

Invite the Right People

Once you have set the date, draw up your list of invitees, making sure there is a good mix of different people on there. That should keep things interesting. If it’s a business cocktail party you’ll want to make sure you have invited the key figures so don’t miss anybody out. If it’s friends, make sure they all get along so nobody feels awkward. Make sure you ask everybody to RSVP so you get an idea of numbers.

Get Your Supplies In

Be warned – a cocktail party is going to set you back a bit! But if you’re going to do it properly then you’ll need to set a budget and stick to it. There are lots of bits and pieces you will need, but check your cupboards first to see if you’ve got anything in already – there’s no point buying things you already have. You’ll need glasses (wine glasses, hi-balls, tumblers, martini glasses and beer glasses), straws, umbrellas and other decorations, loads of ice and some nibbles such as olives, crisps and nuts. It’s really important to have some cocktail mixers and shakers too to help make the drinks.

Then there’s the alcohol! Stock up on all the main cocktail bases such as vodka, white rum, whisky, gin and brandy, along with some cordials such as grenadine. Get loads of mixers in such as cola, lemonade, tonic water and soda water. It might help if you choose two or three main cocktails so that you don’t have to buy an entire bar-load of booze! Finally you’ll need some fruit such as lemons, limes, oranges and strawberries.

Plan the Party

A cocktail party will really go with a swing if there is a proper bartender there who is trained in making cocktails. He or she will be able to advise you on your shopping list. You can hire people in that are experts in cocktail-making – so if you have the budget then seriously consider this. Otherwise, you might find yourself stuck making cocktails all night and unable to mingle properly.

The Extra Bits

Don’t forget to put some thought into how you are going to set out the food. Perhaps you could dish up finger food and canapés? Think about plates and cutlery if necessary. What about music? You should choose some suitable background music or perhaps hire a string quartet in.

Throwing a cocktail party is a blast – so get it right. Don’t forget to keep a local cab number for guests handy – we doubt many people will be driving home!
