This parval recipe is simple parval recipe (pointed gourd recipe) cooked with gram flour and ground spices.

Cooking Time: Appr. 30 Minutes

Parval Recipe


250g parval (pointed gourd)
2 garlic cloves
½ inch ginger
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
½ teaspoon asafoetida powder
1 teaspoon red chilli powder
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
½ teaspoon garam masala powder
2 tablespoon gram flour (besan)
2 tablespoon oil
Salt to taste
Water as needed

Parval Recipe (Pointed Gourd Recipe)

Cooking Method:

1. Wash and chop the top and bottom end of parval (pointed gourd) and cut the parval in halves lengthwise then cut the okra into 3-4 pieces lengthwise.

2. Peel and chop the ginger finely. Chop the garlic finely.

3. Heat the oil in a pan. Add the cumin seeds and mustard seeds. When the seeds crackle, add asafoetida powder.

4. Then add finely chopped ginger and garlic. Stir for a minute.

5. Now add the parval (pointed gourd) pieces. Cook it covering the lid and stir in between until parval (pointed gourd) is cooked. Sprinkle some water, if it gets dried. Make sure to let the steam water goes in when you open the lid for stirring.

6. Once the parval (pointed gourd) pieces are cooked and soft, add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder and salt. Mix well and cook the parval recipe for further 2-3 minutes.

7. Now add gram flour (besan) to parval curry and keep stirring the parval recipe. Cook parval curry for additional 2-3 mins or until gram flour is cooked.

8. Finally turn the heat off.

Serve parval recipe hot with chapatti, paratha, naan bread or with dal and rice.

Variation Tips:

You can peel the parval (pointed gourd) skin and remove the seeds before cutting parval (pointed gourd).
