Palak Paratha Recipe (Spinach Paratha) is stuffed with spicy and tangy spinach (palak).

Cooking Time: Appr. 30 Minutes
Serves: 4 People

Palak Paratha Recipe (Spinach Paratha)

Ingredients:

For the Paratha Dough:

2 cups Whole Wheat Flour
¼ cup Yogurt
2 tablespoon oil
2 teaspoon salt
Warm water as needed

For the Filling:

1 large spinach bunch or 300 gram frozen chopped spinach (palak)
2 Green Chillies
1 teaspoon cashew nut paste
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
½ teaspoon chopped rosemary
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon Garam Masala
1 teaspoon Lemon Juice
1 teaspoon oil
Salt to taste
Oil/Ghee for shallow frying the Palak Paratha
Flour for dusting

Palak Paratha (Spinach Paratha)

Cooking Method:

1. For the Filling: Wash the spinach, cut the stem out and chop the spinach leaves. Dissolve some salt in warm water and keep chopped spinach in salty warm water for 15-20 min. Squeeze the water out from the chopped spinach and make coarse paste of chopped spinach in the blender or grinder. Do not make smooth paste otherwise your Spinach paratha will be difficult to roll. If you are using frozen chopped spinach, defrost it at room temperature just keeping out from the freezer before 2 hours of cooking it.

2. Chop the chillies finely.

3. Heat the oil in a pan and add spinach. Add chopped chillies, chopped rosemary and mix well.

4. Add turmeric powder, cashew nut paste, coriander powder, garam masala, salt and lemon juice and cook until spinach get dried.

5. For the Dough: Take flour and mix in salt, oil and yogurt. Slowly add the warm water when required and make stiff dough (same as chapatti dough). Cover and keep it aside for at least half an hour.

6. For the spinach Paratha: Knead the dough again for few mins and make equal tennis ball sized balls.

7. Roll this dough ball in the flour dusting and roll them using a rolling pin into thick 3 times bigger than original dough ball size.

8. Place about 1 teaspoon of spinach filling in the centre. Cover and seal the ends by pressing with your hand and roll again, dusting flour if necessary. See the picture above. Roll until it gets 4 times bigger than original dough ball size.

9. Heat the tawa/wide frying pan at high flame and lower it to low-medium flame.

10. Place the stuffed palak paratha on the tawa/wide frying pan and cook on both the sides till its cooked and brown spots start to appear on top. Spread a little oil/ghee both side. Finish cooking all palak paratha.

Serve palak paratha recipe (spinach paratha recipe) hot with any curry or with plain yogurt or raita or with any curry you wish.

  1. I love palak pratha and try and give this to my picky kids coz they hate eating palak and I like anyother mom find various ways to make them eat healthy and this is one of them :)!

  2. Thanks Anamika. I am glad you have liked it. My little monster had whole paratha when I made last time palak paratha. He just simply love it. He is bit picky when it comes to food but for some reason he loves flat bread and this is his sort of thing.
