Moong Dal Khichdi Recipe is a combination of rice and moong dal (mung dal) with spices. Moong dal khichdi is easy to digest and one pot meal salad or achar on side. Moong dal khichdi recipe is also known as mung dal khichdi recipe.

Moong Dal Khichdi Recipe


1 cup rice
¾ cup moong dal (mung dal)
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
4-5 black peppercorn
3-4 cloves
1 star anise
1-2 bay leaves
2 tablespoon ghee (clarified butter) or butter or oil
Salt to taste
Water as needed

Moong Dal Khichdi

Cooking Method:

1. Wash the rice and moong dal (mung dal) together and soak for 30 mins under the cold water.

2. Heat the ghee/butter/oil in a pan or pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds. When cumin seeds crackle, add black peppercorns, star anise, cloves and bay leaves.

3. When they start sizzling, add the turmeric powder.

4. Add the soaked rice and moong dal (mung dal) along with the water. Add 2 cups of water and salt to taste.

5. Mix well and let it cook until dal and rice are cooked and mushy. If you are using pressure cooker, cook for 3-4 whistles.

6. Let the moong dal khichdi recipe set for 5 mins and stir well before serving.

Serve moong dal khichdi recipe hot with kadhi or any curry or as it is pouring some ghee (clarified butter) or butter on it and salad or achar on side.
