Mixed Dal Recipe is simple dal recipe using different types of dals.

Cooking Time: Appr. 30 Minutes
Serves: 2-3 People

Mixed Dal Recipe


½ cup tuvar dal or toor dal (yellow pigeon peas)
A handful chana dal (or yellow split peas)
A handful moong dal (mung dal)
A handful masoor dal (red lentils)
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 inch ginger root
2 green chillies
½ teaspoon red chilli powder
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves
Salt to taste
Water as needed

Mixed Dal

Cooking Method:

1. Wash all dals and soak under the water for an hour.

2. Boil soaked dals with chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt with double amount of water until dals are cooked. If you are cooking mixed dal in pressure cooker, cook until 3-4 whistles.

3. Meanwhile peel the ginger and grate it. Chop the green chillies finely.

4. Heat the oil in a pan. Add the cumin seeds. When seeds crackle, add chopped chillies and grated ginger. Stir well for a minute.

5. Add the cooked mixed dals and mix dal recipe well.

6. Add the lemon juice and mix dal well.

7. Turn the heat off and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

Serve mixed dal recipe hot with chapatti, paratha or rice.

Variation Tips:

You can add chopped onion before adding chopped chillies and grated ginger. Sauté until onions are transparent and add chopped chillies and grated and cook for further 2-3 mins on low heat. Then follow the above steps.

You can add other dals too like urad dal (black channa dal), skinned moong dal (mung dal), etc… to make mix dal recipe.
