Mixed Bean Curry is cooked with five different types of beans with the spices.

Cooking Time: Appr. 40 Minutes
Serves: 3-4 People

Mixed Bean Curry

Ingredients:

¼ cup chick peas (chole chana)
¼ cup black chick peas (kala chana)
¼ cup moong or mung (green beans)
¼ cup red mung beans
¼ dried green peas
1 tinned tomatoes
1 inch ginger
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
¼ teaspoon asafoetida
1 bay leaf
1 small cinnamon stick
1 teaspoon red chilli powder
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
1 tablespoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon garam masala powder
2 tablespoon chopped coriander
2 tablespoon oil
Salt to taste
Water as needed

Bean Curry

Cooking Method:

1. Wash and soak all beans under the water (around 3 cups water) overnight.

2. Pressure cook them with enough water until all beans are cooked properly. You can cook in a pan until they are cooked and bit mushy. Keep aside.

3. Peel the ginger and grate it.

4. Heat the oil in a pan. Add the cumin seeds and mustard seeds. When seeds crackle, add the asafoetida, bay leaf and cinnamon stick. Add grated ginger and stir for a minute.

5. Add the tinned tomatoes. Stir and cook for 3-4 mins.

6. Add chilli powder, turmeric powder and coriander powder. Cook until oil separated on sides.

7. Add salt and garam masala powder and cook for further 2 mins. Stir in between.

8. Add all boiled beans with the water. Bring it to boil and cook for 5-6 mins on medium heat.

9. Add the water; if you want in bean curry otherwise just cook with the water is already there when you boiled it.

10. Finally turn off the heat.

Serve mixed bean curry hot with chapatti or rice.

Variation Tips:

You can add grated or mince garlic with ginger. You can add chopped onions to make gravy thicker, add the chopped onions after adding grated ginger and sauté for 4-5 mins or until it is lightly brown. Then follow the above steps to make mixed bean curry recipe.
