Lauki Chana Dal Recipe is also known as Dudhi Chana Dal Recipe. Dudhi Chana is a one of the most popular doodhi recipes.

Cooking Time: Appr. 30 Minutes
Serves: 3-4 People

Lauki Chana Dal Ingredients:

1 cup Chana dal or channa dal (Also Known As Kala Chana Dal or Desi chickpea dal)
1 small lauki (also known as dudhi, doodhi and bottle gourd)
2 onions
1 large tomato
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon chilli powder
1 teaspoon garam masala
A pinch of asafoetida powder
2 tablespoon oil
1 tablespoon chopped coriander
Salt to taste

Cooking Method:

1. Wash and soak chana dal for at least 4 hours.
2. Boil chana dal, turmeric and salt with water until chana dal is cooked. Don’t over cooked it, channa dal should be soft but not mushy. Keep aside. (You can also cooked chana dal with lauki instead of cooking lauki with other spices. It will save cooking time.)

3. Peel the lauki and cut in small cubes.

4. Chop the onions and tomatoes.

5. Heat the oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, when it crackles add asafoetida powder.

6. Add chopped onions; cook until it turns it lightly brown. Add cut lauki pieces cook for 5-10 mins.

7. Now add chopped tomatoes, chilli powder and turmeric powder, stir for few secs. Then quickly add cooked chana dal, placing the lid on immediately. This allows the flavours to infuse. Add garam masala and cook it for 5-7 mins or until lauki dal is cooked well.

8. Finally turn off the heat and garnish doodhi chana with coriander leaves.

Serve Lauki Chana Dal Recipe hot with Chapatties or rice.
