Kala Chana Masala is a side dish but it can be eaten as a main dish.

Cooking Time: Appr. 10 Minutes
Serves: 2 People

Kala Chana MasalaIngredients:

250 gram boiled black (or brown) chick pea or 1 tinned black (or brown) chick pea
1 teaspoon chilli powder
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 tablespoon coriander powder
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
½ teaspoon garam masala powder
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 tablespoon chopped coriander
1 tablespoon oil
Salt to taste

How To Cook Kala Chana Masala:

1. Heat the oil in the pan and add cumin seeds. Wait until it crackles.

2. Now add tomato paste then the chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt and cook it for 5 mins on low heat.

3. Drain the water from black/brown chick pea and add the black/brown chick pea into the heated pan.

4. Now stir it and cook it for 5-7 mins.

5. Add the garam masala and lemon juice and stir and cook for further 2 mins.

6. Finally garnish kala chana masala with chopped coriander.

Serve kala chana masala hot with Naan bread, chapatti or rice.

Variation Tips:

If you are using dried black/brown chick peas (kala chana), follow these steps.

Wash and soak the  peas for at least 8 hours (or overnight) in the water. You will need triple size of water than the quantity of beans.

Now add the double or triple size of water with kala chana (peas) and boiled peas until it get cooked.
