Farali Aloo Chaat is one of the farali recipes eaten during the fasting. Farali recipes play important part in Indian culture as the Indian calendar is full of festivals. Almost every festival has got its own fasting value.

Cooking Time: Appr. 45 Minutes
Serves: 2-3 People

Farali Aloo Chaat


500 gram baby potatoes
¼ cup green chutney (farali chutney without onion and garlic)
¼ cup tamarind chutney
2 tomatoes
1 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
¼ cup chopped coriander
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Oil for dipping the potatoes
Salt to taste

Cooking Method:

1. Wash your potatoes in cold water.

2. Bring the potatoes to boil with the salted water and cook for about 10-12 minutes, so that they are tender and half boiled and drain them.

3. Peel the potatoes and cut in halves or quarters. You can reverse these steps – peeling first and then boiling.
Preheat the oven to 200 degree c.

4. Now here is the trick for real crispy roasted potato chaat. Dip the potato one by one in the oil and place in a baking tray. Finish dipping all.

5. Roast the potatoes for 30 mins or until it get golden crust on it.

6. Chop the tomatoes.

7. Finally take the roasted potatoes out from the oven. Take the roasted potatoes in a serving bowl and pour some green chutney, lemon juice and tamarind chutney on them. Garnish farali aloo chaat with cumin powder, chopped tomatoes and chopped coriander.

Serve farali aloo chaat as a fasting farali recipe.

Variation Tips:

You can add chopped green chillies, if you like spicy aloo chaat.

You can use amchur powder (dried raw mango powder) instead of lemon juice for tangy farali aloo chaat.

You can either deep fried or boil the potatoes to make farali aloo chaat instead of roasting them.
