Dal Makhni Recipe (Dal Makhani) is northern indian lentil recipe. It is very nutritious and full of protein.

Serves: 3 People

Dal Makhni Recipe (Dal Makhani)

Ingredients:

200 gram boiled black lentil (urad) or aduki beans (or tinned)
100 gram boiled kidney beans (or tinned)
2 medium onions
3 medium tomatoes
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon garlic paste
1 teaspoon ginger paste
2 tablespoon tomato puree (optional)
1 teaspoon chilli powder
1 ½ teaspoon coriander powder
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon garam masala
½ cup milk
2 tablespoon chopped coriander for garnish
or 1 teaspoon cream for garnish
1 tablespoon cream
Salt to taste
Water as needed

Dal Makhni Recipe (Dal Makhani)Cooking Method:

1. To make dal makhani, cook boiled kidney beans and black lentil with water, milk and salt for 12-15 mins. If you are using dried beans, please find the instruction below for how to boiled beans and then follow this step.

2. Chop the onions and tomatoes.

3. Heat the butter in a pan and add the cumin seeds.

4. When the seeds crackle, add ginger and garlic paste and cook for 2 mins and add chopped onion and cook till the onions turn golden brown.

5. Now add the chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, tomato paste, garam masala and chopped tomatoes and cook until tomato mashed with all spices.

6. Add this cooked spice mix to the beans mixture and cook for 10-12 mins till the Dal Makhani gets thick.
Now turn the heat off and add cream on the top and stir it.

7. Finally garnish punjabi dal makhani with chopped coriander or cream.

Serve Dal Makhni Recipe (Dal Makhani) hot with Naan bread or chapatti or rice.

If you are using dried aduki beans or black lentil and kidney beans, here are the instructions for how to boil beans.

Wash and soak beans for at least 8 hours (or overnight) in the water. You will need triple size of water than the quantity of beans.

Now add double size of water with beans and boiled beans until it get overcooked.
