Dal Cabbage Curry Recipe is one of best cabbage and dal curry combination – cooked in ground spices.

Serves: 2-3 People

Dal Cabbage Curry Recipe


1 small cabbage
1 cup chana dal (or split yellow lentils)
1 tablespoon tomato paste
¼ teaspoon asafoetida (hing powder)
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon red chilli powder
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
½ teaspoon garam masala powder
½ teaspoon cumin powder
1 tablespoon oil
Salt to taste
Water as needed

Dal Cabbage Curry Recipe

Cooking Method:

1. Soak the chana dal (or split yellow lentils) for 2 hours. Boil the dal for 15 mins.

2. Chop the cabbage and wash it.

3. Heat the oil in a pan. Add the cumin seeds and mustard seeds. When the seeds crackle, add asafoetida.

4. Add the boiled chana dal and cook for 3-4 mins. Keep stirring every so often.

5. Add the red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, salt and tomato paste. Mix well and cook for 3-4 mins. Keep stirring every so often.

6. Add the little water and cook for 2-3 mins. Stir in between.

7. Add the chopped cabbage and mix well. Cook for 3-4 mins. Stir in between.

8. Add the garam masala powder and cumin powder, cook the dal cabbage curry recipe for further 5 mins. Stir in between.

9. Finally turn the heat off.

Serve dal cabbage curry recipe hot with chapatti, naan bread, paratha or rice.

Variation Tips:

You can use any dal to make dal cabbage curry recipe.

You can add garlic paste and chopped onion to this dal cabbage curry recipe. Add the garlic paste after adding all seeds and asafoetida (hing powder) and stir for a minute. Add the 2 medium chopped onions and cook until soft then follow above steps to make dal cabbage curry recipe.
