Chicken Potato Curry is one of the authentic indian recipes. It is also west indian recipe. It is very delicious with any Nan bread, chapatti or rice.

Cooking Time: App. 45 Minutes
Serves: 4 People

Chicken Potato CurryIngredients:

200 gram Chicken cut in small pieces
3 medium size potatoes
3 medium onions
3 medium tomatoes
2 tablespoons oil
1 tablespoon garlic paste
1 teaspoon ginger paste
1½ teaspoon chilli powder
2 teaspoon coriander powder
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon gram masala
2 tablespoon chopped coriander
4 cloves
6 whole black peppers (peppercorn)
2 small cinnamon sticks
2 bay leaves
2 star anise
2 garlics cut in small pieces.
Salt to taste
Water as needed

Cooking Method:

1. Cut onions in 2 halves and then cut in slices. Peel potatoes and cut in cubes. Chop tomatoes.

2. Heat the oil in the pan and add garlic pieces. Wait till garlic pieces get golden brown.

3. Now add cloves, black peppers, cinnamon sticks, bay leaves and star anise. Now add slices of onions and cook and stir till it get golden brown.

4. Take chopped tomatoes in a bowl. Add chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, 1 tablespoon of chopped coriander leaves and salt and add some water and mix with spoon.

5. Add this tomatoes-spices mix into the pan and cook it for 7-10 mins. It will need stirring every minute.

6. Now add potato cubes and cook it for 13-15 min covering with a lid, it will still need stirring every minute. Potatoes will be half-cooked this point.

7. Add chicken pieces and cook it for another 13-15 mins. Keep stirring gently every minute.

8. Now add some water as much as you want in gravy and cook another 5-7 mins until chicken is cooked properly with the lid on and stirring every minute.

9. Finally turn off the heating, add garam masala and stir it and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

Serve hot with Naan bread or chapatti or rice.

  1. Very nice potato chicken curry. I cook very similliar way with same ingredients, at least once in a week. I guess this chicken potato recipe you have got from mom or grandma. I like your site, it is full of indian cooking recipes. Keep it up.

    • Thanks for the comment Asha. I have learned this potato chicken recipe from my mum. She cooks once in a week too either friday or sunday and serves with salads, chapatti and rice. Thanks again for popping by and leaving comment.
