Black Eyed Peas Curry (Black Eyed Beans Curry) is simple bean curry recipe cooked with onions, tomatoes and ground spices.

Cooking Time: Appr. 20 Minutes
Serves: 2-3 People

Black Eyed Peas Curry


2 tinned Black-eyed peas (beans)
1 tinned chopped tomatoes
2 medium onions
1 tablespoon garlic paste
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon chilli powder
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
2 teaspoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon garam masala powder
2 tablespoon oil
Chopped fresh coriander for garnishing
Salt to taste
Water as or if needed

Black Eyed Beans Curry

Cooking Method:

1. Chop the onions.

2. Heat the oil in a pan. Add the cumin seeds and mustard seeds.

3. When seeds crackle, add chopped onions and garlic paste. Cook until onions are lightly brown. Stir in between to avoid burning and sticking to the pan.

4. Add the tinned chopped tomatoes along with red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt. Stir well and cook until the oil separated on sides.

5. Add the tinned Black-eyed peas (beans) and mix well. Add water if you want gravy thinner. Cook the black eyed beans curry for 5 mins.

6. Add the garam masala powder and cook black eyed bean curry for further 2-3 mins.

7. Finally turn the heat off and garnish black eyed peas curry with chopped coriander.

Serve black eyed peas curry recipe with chapatti, naan bread or rice.

Variation Tips:

You can use dry Black-eyed peas (beans) to make black eyed pea curry. Soak the Black-eyed peas (beans) overnight and boil with water until they are cooked and bit mushy.

You can use fresh tomato to make black eye peas curry. Chop 3-4 tomatoes and follow above steps to cook the black eyed beans curry.
