Bhakri (Bhakhari or Dhebra) is round flat bread which is made from medium or thick wheat or millet flour. This is very simple gujarati bhakri recipe (gujarati dhebra recipe).

Cooking Time:Appr. 20 Minutes
Serves: 4 People

Bhakri (Bhakhari or Dhebra)Ingredients:

2 cup Wheat flour (Medium)
2 tablespoon oil
Salt to taste
Oil for shallow frying
Water as needed

Cooking Method:

1. Take the flour in a large bowl and Mix salt with it.

2. Now make hole in the middle and add oil. Mix it properly.

3. Warm the water in a kettle.

4. Make a hole in the middle again and add warm water and mix with spoon.

5. Add some more water and keep mixing with spoon. Do not add too much water as you need to maintain the consistency to form the mix and should hard dough as hard dough make crispy bhakri.

6. After few mins you can use your hand to mix it properly and make it hard dough. All flour should be turned into dough.

7. Now take a small bit, a size of a lemon. Press in between your hands and dip both sides in the wheat flour.

8. Roll on the rolling pin (roller). Now press it and sprinkle some flour and keep rolling.

9. Keep rolling until it gets 3 times bigger than original dough size.

10. Heat the heavy based frying pan.

11. Gently lift the bhakri and put in the heated pan. Turn it over in 30 secs. Add the oil with the spoon on the edge of the bhakri and spread on the top side, cook it for 45 secs. Now again turn it over and cook it for another 30 secs.

12. Take the bhakri out from the pan and do the same with the rest dough. It normally takes around 1-2 mins to cook one bhakri.

Serve hot Bhakri with dry curry or cup of tea.
