This Basic Curry Sauce is made from basic curry ingredients. Indian Curry Sauce is normally served with biryanis.

Cooking Time: Appr. 10 Minutes
Serves: 2-3 People

Basic Curry Sauce


1 large onion
1 large red tomato
1 garlic clove
½ inch ginger
4-5 curry leaves (kadi patta) – Optional
½ teaspoon fenugreek seeds
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
½ teaspoon mustard seeds
¼ teaspoon asafoetida (hing powder)
½ teaspoon garam masala
½ teaspoon chilli powder
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1 tablespoon lemon juice or amchur powder (dried mango powder)
1 tablespoon oil
Salt to taste

Veg Fried Rice With Curry SauceCooking Method:

1. To make curry sauce, chop the onion and tomato.

2. Peel the ginger. Grate the garlic and ginger.

3. Heat the oil in a pan, add fenugreek seeds, mustard seeds and cumin seeds.

4. When the seeds crackle, add asafoetida (hing powder) and curry leaves (optional). Then in few secs add chopped

5. onion and cook 3-4 mins keep stirring in between (Do not burn asafoetida and curry leaves, when you are making curry sauce as the burning smell will come out from the curry sauce).

6. Add grated garlic and ginger, mix well and cook for 2 mins.

7. Add chopped tomato, stir and cook for a minute. Add chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and garam masala. Cook until all spices are cooked. Oil will be separated on the sides from the spices once the spices are cooked.

8. Add salt and lemon juice, mix well and remove this easy curry sauce recipe from the heat.

9. Blend the cooked curry sauce until the sauce gets smooth.

10. Boil the curry sauce for few mins and turn off the heat. Your best curry sauce is ready to serve.

Serve Homemade Curry Sauce hot with rice or with chapatti on a side.
