Barley Grits Recipe – A Quick Vegetarian Recipe For Travelling

Travelling is a one thing that every person does in their lifetime. Everyone loves to travel while they have leisure time. Some people like to travel alone and some people like to travel in groups. When we are travelling we need to have a healthy diet to stay strong and to get the strength we need to continue our travelling. Finding a place to get a healthy diet is not hard but if you are a vegetarian, it could sometimes be difficult to find a place to eat. Here is a quick vegetarian recipe you can take while you travel and some tips to make sure you do not have to starve while the journey is going on.

Southwestern Barley Grits Recipe

Barley Grits Recipe Southwestern Barley Grits Recipe is a quick vegetarian recipe that you can make before you go and take while you travel. It is quite easy to make and will not take much time either.

Ingredients:

1 1/4 cups of uncooked pearl barley
3 cups of water
3 cups of low fat milk
1 tablespoon of honey
3/4 teaspoon of salt
1 cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 teaspoon of chilli powder
1 cup of chopped green chillies
6 tablespoons of sour cream
Some Hot sauce if you want too add in grits recipe.

Preparation:

Put 1/3 cup of barley in the blender and blend until it is coarsely ground for about 10 to 25 seconds.

Then put ground barley in a saucepan which is enough for all the ingredients. Then repeat the same procedure with all the other remaining barley. After putting all of the barley in to the saucepan, cook it over a medium heat for about 4 minutes or until it is toasted. Make sure to stir it frequently while you are cooking.

After you have cooked the barley, it’s time to add some of the other ingredients. First you should add water to the saucepan and mix it well with cooked barley.

Then it is time to add the three cups of milk, ¾ teaspoon of salt and one tablespoon of honey.

Next, you have to mix the entire ingredients well and wait until it comes to the state of boiling. When it starts to boil, you have to reduce the heat. Then simmer it for about 25 minutes or wait until barley is soft. You should not forget to stir frequently while doing this.

Then you have to add1 cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese, 1 cup of chopped green chillies and 1 teaspoon of chilli powder. Cook again for about 5 minutes until the cheddar cheese melts, without stopping the stirring to make sure that the cheese is mixing well with the whole meal. When all the things are mixed well, you are done with the cooking part.

You can now pack barley grits recipe in a bowl that you can carry while travelling.

Don’t forget to take some sour cream and hot sauce with you while you travel, so you can put them on your meal when you are ready to eat.
